‘Jealous’ mail man kills his ex

A 35-year-old mail delivery employee who shot and killed a 44-year-old female colleague at a Hellenic Post (ELTA) branch in Piraeus Thursday morning is believed to have been driven by jealousy, Kathimerini understands.

The man, who was not named, walked into the ELTA branch armed with a pistol, entered the sorting department where the woman worked and shot her at least twice in the head at close range, witnesses told police.

He was arrested while leaving the post office by officers of the police?s motorcycle-riding rapid-response squad (DIAS), who arrived at the scene after receiving several calls from customers and employees.

According to investigators, the gunman and the victim had worked together in the past at an ELTA branch in Keratsini, southwest of Piraeus, where police believe they had been romantically involved. The woman is said to have requested a transfer from that post office to Piraeus, where she was on the first day of her new job Thursday.
