Grammatiko claims rebuffed by ministry

The Environment Ministry issued a statement on Friday rejecting claims earlier this week by environmental inspectors who said that the proper procedure was not followed when granting a license for a waste processing center to be constructed in Grammatiko, northeast of Athens.

Inspectors had asserted that the license was issued unusually quickly and that environmental impact studies had been suspect.

The ministry said the studies were properly conducted and called on the media to allow the dispute over the landfill?s creation to be settled by the courts.
