IKA inspectors in Chios following fraud allegations

The head of Greece?s main social security fund, Rovertos Spyropoulos, revealed Thursday that inspectors from IKA were on their way to the island of Chios to check on the unusually high number of people claiming benefits for blindness.

?We are examining 364 claims on Chios,? he said. ?We have received anonymous and eponymous complaints. The percentage of claimants [as a proportion of the local population] is above average and we were obliged to conduct an inspection.?

Spyropoulos said that similar checks would be carried out in other parts of Greece.
