Stournaras asks for names with HSBC Jersey branch

Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras wrote to his British counterpart George Osborne on Thursday requesting the details of any Greek citizens with accounts at the HSBC branch of the Channel Island tax haven of Jersey after British press reports claimed that a list of some 8,500 account-holders included nearly 100 Greeks.

On Wednesday financial prosecutor Grigoris Peponis said he would seek the list in order to establish whether there are indeed any Greek citizens on the list and whether they should be investigated for possible tax evasion or money-laundering charges.
