City hall protests to carry on until end of the week

Municipal workers who have been occupying city halls and municipal services around Greece in recent weeks to protest a government scheme aimed at putting thousands of employees into an early redundancy program are to continue their action until Friday, unionists decided on Tuesday.

After a fruitless meeting with Administrative Reform Minister Antonis Manitakis, the head of the municipal workers’ union, known by its acronym POE-OTA, Themis Balasopoulos, said that sit-ins would continue but that trash collection would not be interrupted.
