Bureaucracy perpetuates graft, watchdog says
Greece’s unwieldy public administration and bureaucracy perpetuate corruption and waste while measures taken by successive governments are either contradictory or only tackle the problem in fits and starts, according to the Greek arm of graft watchdog Transparency International (TI).
Corruption costs taxpayers 14 billion euros per year, according to a TI report which blamed “Communist-type” bureaucracy, noting that 3,430 laws have been submitted in Parliament in 30 years.
