Unions to mark May Day, disruptions in public transport

Public transport services will be disrupted on Wednesday as a number of unions go on strike to mark May Day.

Buses and trolley buses are expected to run between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., while the metro and the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway (ISAP) will operate after 9 a.m. There will be no metro to Athens International Airport], while tram services will commence at 8 a.m.

Panepistimio, Syntagma, Evangelismos and Megaro Mousikis metro stations will be closed due to police orders. They are likley to open in the afternoon.

TrainOse, operating inter-city trains and the Attica suburban railway, known as proastiakos, is also taking part in the strike. Passengers are advised to contact the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) for details on 14511 or visit www.trainose.gr.

Ferries will remain docked across the country, while public hospitals will be operating with skeleton staff throughout the day.

The country’s largest labor unions, GSEE and ADEDY are organizing a rally on Kafthmonos Square in central Athens starting at 11 a.m.
