Metro train fire possibly caused by engine problem

A fire that broke out on Tuesday on a carriage of a metro train that had been pulling out of the central Panepistimiou station was extinguished without anyone suffering any injuries, according to the police and the fire service.

A team of 15 firefighters was dispatched to the station after thick smoke started billowing from the carriage, forcing the driver to return the train to the station.

The train was evacuated while firefighters extinguished the blaze, believed to have been caused by an engine problem.
