Terms for e-pharmacies to go into operation being drafted

A ministerial decision setting out the terms and conditions for the sale of non-prescription medicines by electronic pharmacies will be issued by September, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis told Parliament on Wednesday.

Greece has been in a position to approve the service since April when it incorporated European Union legislation into Greek law, Georgiadis said. One of Greece’s commitments to the country’s troika of foriegn creditors, which is set out in the latest memorandum, is to liberalize the supply of non-prescription drugs including vitamins, allowing their sale by supermarkets and other retail outlets.

The Panhellenic Association of Pharmacists said in a statement that it would “actively participate” in drafting legislation governing the sale of medicines over the Internet.
