Thessaloniki doctors cleared of mismanagement

Thirteen doctors working for Thessaloniki’s Ippocrateio Hospital were found not guilty of mismanagement by the disciplinary council of the Health Ministry on Friday.

The doctors have been suspended from duty for the past 18 months after being accused of jacking up the price of orthopedic and neurosurgery supplies.

Speaking after the ruling, the head of the federation of Greek hospital doctors’ unions, Dimitris Varnavas, argued that placing doctors on suspension before their cases have been tried “raises the possibility of serious errors being made.”
