Eight face charges for attempting to switch ERT transmitter back on

Seven people taken into custody late on Monday after breaking into the enclosure protecting the defunct ERT state broadcaster’s transmitter on Mount Hymettus in Athens were released on Tuesday after facing a local prosecutor.

All seven faced misdemeanor charges, while an eighth person, also detained on Monday, was remanded in custody and faced felony charges.

About 80 people had gathered on Mount Hymettus on Monday night to protest the government’s decision to close down the national broadcaster in June.

The group of 8 was believed to have tried to switch the transmitter back on.
