Samaras expected to make new visit to USA in September

Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is planning to return to the USA in September after his three-day trip to Washington and New York last week.

Samaras is due to take part in the UN general assembly, which begins on September 23 but he will combine his appearance at the meeting with trips to other parts of the US.

A return trip to Washington is on the agenda and the Greek premier is likely to take in another city during his trip, possibly Chicago or Boston.

Samaras plans to meet key figures from the US House of Representatives and the Senate when he visits Washington in September. Congress was not in session when Samaras met US President Barack Obama on Thursday.

A meeting with International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde is also likely.

Samaras is due to be accompanied on his trip by Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos, who will arrange a separate set of meetings.
