Athens vehicle restrictions to apply again from September 9

The restrictions on cars entering the center of Athens is to resume on September 9, authorities said over the weekend.

This year, as was the case in September 2012, cars with low carbon emissions will be allowed into downtown Athens regardless of whether their license plate ends in an odd or even number.

This means cars which comply with the Euro 5 or 6 emissions standard introduced in September 2009 will be allowed to drive into or through the center.

Vehicles that meet the Euro 4 standard but emit less than 140 g/km of carbon and hybrid cars will also be allowed access at all times of the day.
