UN’s Matthew Nimetz in Athens for FYROM name talks
Matthew Nimetz, the United Nations mediator in a longstanding dispute between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) over the latter’s official name arrived in Athens on Monday. He is due to meet with Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos before traveling to FYROM’s capital, Skopje, as part of a three-day visit to discuss the resumption of talks aimed at reaching a settlement.
Nimetz is to meet with government officials in both countries as part of ongoing efforts to find a “mutually acceptable solution” to the dispute, UN sources said last week.
