Father, sons, jailed for brutal Thessaloniki murder

A court in Thessaloniki on Monday convicted a father and his two sons for the murder of a businessman in April, 2010. The 50-year-old father was sentenced to life in prison and received an additional 22-year prison term, while his two sons, aged 26 and 27, were given 18.5 and 18 years behind bars, respectively.

The 31-year-old victim was a shareholder in the road assistance company where the 50-year-old and one of his sons were employed. According to the father, the motive behind the attack was his and his son’s dismissal as well as the sum of 3,500 euros the victim allegedly owed him.

The court heard that the three men attacked the 31-year-old with iron bars in the area of Oreokastro, before transferring him to an abandoned construction site where they attempted to douse him with gasoline before the 50-year-old eventually killed him with a makeshift weapon.
