Ex-justice minister says New Democracy blocked anti-racism bill to win back GD voters

Former Justice Minister Antonis Roupakiotis accused of New Democracy of blocking an attempt to pass a new anti-racism bill earlier this year because the conservatives did not want to alienate Golden Dawn voters.

Speaking to Alpha radio on Monday, Roupakiotis claimed the legislation, which would have introduced stiffer sentences for hate crimes, was blocked because New Democracy hoped to convince right wing voters who drifted away from the conservative party to return.

Roupakiotis was nominated to his post by Democratic Left, which quit the coalition in June.
