Lawsuits against Papandreou, Stournaras reach Parliament

A former member of Greece’s privatization fund has launched legal action against Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras, prompting prosecutors to ask Parliament whether the economist’s ministerial immunity should be lifted.

The case file, put together after ex-Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund employee Anna Zoirou sued Stournaras, was sent to Parliament by the Supreme Court.

Zoirou has claimed that she was forced out of her job after opposing the privatization of the Thessaloniki Water Company (EYATH).

Also on Friday, a case file compiled after a member of the public sued ex-Prime Minister George Papandreou for lying in order to win the 2009 national elections was sent to MPs.

Parliament’s ethics committee has three months to decide whether to call a vote on whether Papandreou’s immunity should be lifted.
