Checks continue on qualifications of former municipal police officers

Checks on documents provided by municipal police officers have so far revealed that 30 people used forged papers to get their jobs, Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday.

Just over half of the degrees, certificates and other papers provided by the 3,576 people who served in the force, which was disbanded in the summer, have been checked so far.

“This is tangible proof of the strong political will to restore meritocracy and end the impunity that damaged the prestige of the public administration,” said Mitsotakis.

However, given that no more than 30 cases of fraud have been discovered, the total number of those who will face disciplinary action is likely to be much smaller than the government initially suggested.
