Three suspects accused of fund fraud released on bail
Three of the six seamen’s healthcare fund employees arrested for alleged fraud were bailed on Wednesday pending trial.
The other three suspects are due to face a magistrate in Athens on Thursday. They include a unionist with links to New Democracy who had been seconded to the office of Education Minister Constantinos Arvanitopoulos.
Four of the six suspects were arrested while accepting 205,000 euros in marked bills from the owner of a clinic who they had approached to take part in their alleged scam.
They were intending to defraud the fund of just over 1 million euros, according to authorities.
