Stournaras says troika deal must come before Greek EU presidency begins
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras met Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras and Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday afternoon to discuss how the government will prepare for the return of the troika.
Samaras, who met German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Friday, was reported to be discussing with his ministers various “prior actions” the government has to complete before the troika returns next week.
On exiting the Maximos Mansion, Stournaras said Greece had to reach an agreement with the troika on the release of the next bailout tranche and next year’s fiscal gap before the beginning of the 2014, when Greece assumes the European Union presidency.
“We will find the solution,” said Stournaras. “This has to happen.”
