Protesters against Halkidiki gold mine gather in Athens
Hundreds of residents from Halkidiki in northern Greece gathered at Syntagma Square in Athens on Monday to hold a peaceful protest against gold-mining activities at Skouries.
In a letter sent to Hellas Gold, which is 95 percent-owned by Canadian-based firm Eldorado Gold, protesters pledged to fight against the alleged environmental destruction caused by the project.
The rally was attended by several left-wing MPs.
