Trial resumes over killing of taxi driver and terror charges

The trial of 30-year-old Tasos Theofilou (photo), who is charged with killing a taxi driver during an armed robbery on the Aegean island of Paros in August 2012, resumed on Monday.

Theofilou, who denies the charges, is also accused of being linked to urban guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire.

During the hearing, three members of the police’s anti-terrorism squad said Theofilou had contacts with other suspected members of the organization, including Costas Sakkas.

Sakkas was granted bail in July after being kept in pretrial custody for two-and-a-half years and going on a hunger strike.
