Minister to inspect flood-hit Dodecanese islands as man’s body is found off Turkish coast
Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis on Tuesday morning flew to the southern Aegean islands of Pserimos and Rhodes to inspect widespread damage caused by several days of heavy rainfall and flash floods that claimed three lives on Rhodes and caused millions of euros’ worth of damage to infrastructure and private property on the two Dodecanese islands.
Three people died in flash floods on Rhodes on Friday, while a fourth person was missing. A fisherman in nearby Turkey, meanwhile, on Monday morning alerted the Greek and Turkish coast guards after he discovered the body of a man in the water. Greek authorities are exploring the possibility that it may be that of the 53-year-old teacher from Rhodes who has been missing since Friday.
