Anastasiades says Cyprus reunifications talks close to collapse
The Greek Cypriot president of ethnically-divided Cyprus says efforts to resume reunification talks with breakaway Turkish Cypriots are close to collapsing.
President Nicos Anastasiades says the two sides can’t agree on the “basic principles” of how Cyprus should be reunified.
Anastasiades insists that a document outlining the key features of an envisioned federated Cyprus must precede any resumption of formal peace talks.
He said Wednesday that Turkish Cypriots are seeking either two separate states or a confederation made up of two sovereign states.
