Police arrest eight fans trying to force way into basketball match

Police on Monday arrested eight people after a group of fans trying to force their way into the indoor basketball arena at Athens’s Olympic Stadium (OAKA) for a basketball game between archrivals Panathinaikos and Olympiakos attacked police with rocks, sticks and homemade firebombs.

According to police reports they also vandalized the Irene electric railway station that serves the OAKA stadium.

An eighth man was arrested after being found to be in possession of five squibs.
