Greek culture minister thanks Clooney for support on marbles
Culture Minister Panos Panayiotopoulos has sent a letter to thank George Clooney following the US actor’s comments in support of Greece’s efforts to have the Parthenon Marbles repatriated from London.
“We are pleased that you publicly sail along this endless wave of solidarity and protest,” Panayiotopoulos said.
He also invited Clooney to spend a few days in the country.
Asked by a Greek journalist during a press event on Saturday at the 64th Berlin Film Festival whether Greece should claim the ancient art treasures, currently at the British Museum, Clooney said: “I think you have a very good case to make about your artifacts. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing if they returned.”
