MPs reject SYRIZA’s censure motion against parliamentary speaker

Parliament rejected SYRIZA’s censure motion against speaker Evangelos Meimarakis on Monday night.

A total of 165 MPs voted against the motion, which was submitted on Sunday when Meimarakis dismissed SYRIZA’s request for a no confidence vote on Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras.

Only 76 lawmakers voted in favor of SYRIZA’s motion on Monday after another stormy debate in the House.

Meimarakis accused SYRIZA of trying to breach parliamentary rules, while the leftists accused him of taking a divisive position.
