Companies warned of fraudsters using hacked e-mail accounts
The police’s electronic crimes squad issued a warning to companies on Thursday to take care with their banking transactions.
According to the statement, there has been a spike in the number of firms complaining that they have been the victims of fraud.
The police said that fraudsters are hacking companies’ e-mails and obtaining the details of firms’ suppliers.
They then send bogus e-mails purporting to be from these suppliers giving different payment details that lead to the companies that fall victim to the scam sending their money to the fraudsters.
