Greek civil servants’ union calls strike for July 9

Greek civil servants’ union ADEDY on Thursday called a one-day nationwide strike for July 9 in protest at government plans to lay off some 6,500 public sector workers by the end of the year, in line with the troika’s demands.

ADEDY added that several protest rallies have been planned across the country on June 30.

In Athens, ADEDY unionists will gather outside the Finance Ministry, where laid-off cleaning staff has been protesting for two months.
