Private clinics urge increase in EOPYY funds
After six days of turning away patients referred by public healthcare provider EOPYY, private clinics are to begin treating them as they seek a settlement with the government.
The clinics called off their action in the hope that it provides a window of opportunity for discussions with the Health Ministry. However, the clinics are adamant that they want the government to scrap its clawback policy, which allows it to reclaim any money paid to the clinics over a set annual ceiling, or increase EOPYY’s funding. The money EOPYY has set aside for patients’ treatment at private clinics this year is 235 million euros but last year, the clinics were owed a total of 370 million.
Diagnostic centers face a similar problem. EOPYY has budgeted 328 million euros for 2014 but the clinics are invoicing for around 50 million euros’ worth of treatment a month.
