Athens promised 27-km cycle lane by end of 2015
A bicycle lane spanning 27 kilometers from the northern suburb of Kifissia to Faliro in southern Athens will be ready by the end of 2015, Environment Minister Yiannis Maniatis announced on Tuesday.
Maniatis said that a contract has already been signed for the construction of an 11-kilometer stretch of the bike lane between Gazi and Faliro. The minister revealed the news during an event hosted by the City of Athens to mark European Mobility Week.
Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis pledged to make efforts to find space for the creation of bike stands. He said the municipality has already removed 110 defunct kiosks from the city’s sidewalks.
