Savvas Xeros appeal for release on health grounds rebuffed

A three-judge Piraeus appeals court on Tuesday rejected a request by November 17 convict Savvas Xeros to be released from Korydallos Prison due to his deteriorating health.

Xeros, who has been in prison since 2003, suffers from multiple sclerosis and other ailments and, his legal team argued, his health has deteriorated to such a point that he should be allowed to serve the remainder of his multiple life sentences at home.

The appeals court, which had asked three medical experts to provide their opinions on the convict’s health, did not publish the reasoning behind its decision.
