Police destroys Greece’s biggest heroin haul

Greek authorities incinerated 2.1 tons of heroin at a secret location on Wednesday. The drug was seized during raids on a home in Filothei, northern Athens, and two warehouses in Koropi, eastern Attica, earlier this year.

According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the heroin was transported to an incinerator outside of Athens under tight security. The process of burning the drug took around four hours.

The heroin was loaded on the Noor One, a Greek-owned cargo ship, in Oman in May and was then transported to Greece, where it was taken to the Filothei property and the two warehouses. A total of 23 people have been remanded in custody in connection to the drug haul.
