N17 terrorist struggling to find support, say Greek police

Convicted terrorist Christodoulos Xeros has failed in his attempt to recruit other urban guerrillas, according to high-ranking sources in the police and anti-terrorism squad.

The November 17 member has been on the run since January, when he failed to return to Korydallos Prison after being granted furlough.

The same sources told Kathimerini that people who helped the 56-year-old disappear are being monitored closely and are not able to work with Xeros to organize new terrorist hits.

“Our assessment is that he is not able to carry out his plans,” said an anti-terrorism squad officer who wished to remain anonymous.

“Those who helped him escape are cornered and he did not have the response he was expecting from old comrades.”

A police source said authorities believe Xeros is hiding out somewhere in Attica.

There is a 1-million-euro bounty on his head.
