Greek MPs say GD official should stand trial over Baltakos video

A parliamentary committee on Thursday voted in favor of lifting the immunity of Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris so that he can stand trial for secretly recording a video of a conversation with former cabinet secretary Panayiotis Baltakos, a close aide to Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

Kasidiaris, who is in Attica’s high-security Korydallos Prison awaiting trial on a string of criminal charges related to GD’s alleged illegal activities, will face additional charges of making and using an illegal recording if Parliament’s plenary session backs the committee’s proposal on the Baltakos affair.

The committee members made their decision after visiting Kasidiaris at his prison cell as the GD spokesman had refused to request a day release to visit the panel in Parliament.

Committee president Christos Markoyiannakis said Kasidiaris verbally abused the delegation.
