Coast guard arrests five suspected migrant smugglers in Zakynthos
Police on the Ionian island of Zakynthos, near Greece’s sea border with Italy, launched a pre-dawn operation to arrest five men suspected of smuggling 30 undocumented Syrian migrants into the country.
Police had been surveiling the two Greeks and three foreign nationals who are believed to be running the racket for a month before spotting them bringing the Syrians to shore in the late hours of Thursday.
The migrants have also been detained.
