Koumandareas murder suspect given 1-day extension for defense
A 25-year-old Romanian national who has been implicated in the murder last month of acclaimed Greek novelist Menis Koumandareas, was on Monday given an extension until Wednesday to defend himself before an investigating magistrate.
The 25-year-old, identified only as Stefan, has refuted the charges brought against him, insisting that he loved and respected the 83-year-old writer and had no reason to kill him.
In testimony last week, the 25-year-old allegedly admitted to going to Koumandareas’s apartment with Cosmin Gaitan, 29, to borrow some money but not with the goal of robbing and killing the writer.
