US official says she hopes Greece gets a ‘good deal’ during Athens visit

The US wants to see Greece “make a good deal with the institutions,” Victoria Nuland, US assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, said on Tuesday following talks with senior government officials, the US Embassy said in a statement.

Nuland described her discussions with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, and Defense Minister Panos Kammenos as “very good” and said the US wants to see Greece emerge from its economic crisis “stronger and more stable” and to see prosperity and growth in the country.

Nuland also discussed security and defense issues, the situation in Ukraine, the anti-ISIL coalition and energy issues, the embassy said.
