Tug boat heads to stranded ferry at Greek island of Kassos
Greece’s coast guard says a tug boat is heading to a ferry that ran aground overnight outside port on the Aegean island of Kassos with 282 passengers and crew on board.
The Vitsenzos Kornaros had been en route from the main port of Piraeus to Rhodes with seven stops on the way. It ran aground late Wednesday as it approached to dock at the small island of Kassos, which is part of the Dodecanese island complex northeast of Crete.
A tug boat was on its way from the Cycladic island of Myconos and was expected to arrive later Thursday.
Strong winds were blowing in the area, but the ship was undamaged and none of the 227 passengers and 55 crew were injured or in any danger, the coast guard said.
