Greek president says Turkish vessel must leave for Cyprus talks to resume

On his first official visit abroad since becoming Greek president, Prokopis Pavlopoulos visited Cyprus on Monday, where he backed Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades’s decision last year to suspend reunification talks on the island after a Turkish research vessel entered the country’s exclusive economic zone.

Pavlopoulos added that peace negotiations should only resume on Cyprus if the vessel, the Barbaros, returns to Turkey.

Apart from Anastasiades, Pavlopoulos also met with Archbishop Chrysostomos, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and political leaders.
