Athens University calls on police to remove anarchist protesters

The University of Athens called on the government on Monday to take action to remove anarchists who occupied the institution’s main building in the morning.

The group of 20 to 30 protesters were given several hours to vacate the premises but decided to remain inside the building. University authorities contacted prosecutors and Alternate Minister for Citizen’s Protection Yiannis Panousis to ask for assistance.

The sit-in is the latest in a series of similar protests by anarchists over the last few weeks. They are demanding the scrapping of maximum security prisons, as well as the release of November 17 member Savvas Xeros and relatives of Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire members.
