Government submits amendment for easing housing and feeding of migrants

The government has submitted an amendment to immigration-related legislation currently being debated in Parliament that would allow it to bypass for the rest of this year the tender process for schemes aimed at providing housing and food for migrants, as well as repatriation programs.

The government says the spike in the number of undocumented migrants arriving in Greece means that it has to move quickly to tackle the issue.

The State General Accounting Office warned that not going through the tender process could lead to the government paying higher costs for the projects.
