Syntagma Square in central Athens was transformed into a Christmastime Sugar Town yesterday, as Mayor Dora Bakoyianni pulled a switch and lit the lights on the capital’s Christmas tree. Visitors will be able to get sweets in little shops set up on the square and ride a carousel. This is Bakoyianni’s first Christmas as mayor. Other parts of Athens, including Omonia and Kotzia squares, have been decorated for Christmas.
