Greece should hold a referendum if it wants, Schaeuble says
Greece should hold a referendum if it wants, German Foreign Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said Monday ahead of a meeting of eurozone finance ministers in Brussels.
“If Greece wants to hold a referendum, it could be helpful,” Schaeuble said without specifying what the question would be.
Speaking to journalists earlier on Monday, Greek government spokesman Gavriil Sakellaridis did not rule out a plebiscite.
“The government enjoys broad popular support and a fresh public mandate, it is by no means afraid of the people’s will,” he said during a briefing of journalists.
