Municipal resignations get doctor brought to Tilos
A day after the entire municipal council of Tilos resigned in protest at the lack of medical professionals, a doctor was dispatched to the tiny Dodecanese island late on Friday.
The resignations prompted the Health Ministry to reach an agreement with the Doctors of the World non-governmental organization to send a doctor to Tilos, located between Kos and Rhodes in the southeastern Aegean, on a three-year contract.
The Athens Medical Association responded by calling on the government to ensure better staffing at medical centers on Greece’s small or remote islands, saying the current situation is “unacceptable” and a threat to residents’ health.
