Ex-judge Antonia Ilia vows to continue extradition battle

Antonia Ilia, who Greek prosecutors have implicated in a trial-fixing ring, said on Tuesday that she would use all legal means at her disposal to fight her extradition to Greece.

Her comments came after the legal office in London that is representing Ilia informed the ex-judge that her extradition to Greece, which had been expected yesterday, had been suspended.

In comments to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Ilia spoke of “indescribable joy” at the news.

Noting that four of the five European arrest warrants that have been issued against her have been withdrawn, Ilia said she would continue her fight to avoid extradition.

“I believe I am innocent and I will struggle to the end to prove my innocence,” she said.

Ilia was sentenced to five years in prison in 2001 but was not arrested until 10 years later in Brighton, southern England.
