Abductors nabbed after victim escapes in Thessaloniki

Police in Thessaloniki on Tuesday were questioning a 70-year-old man and his granddaughter’s 20-year-old fiance on charges of abduction after they allegedly kidnapped a 46-year-old garage owner from Ioannina and held him in a trailer outside Thessaloniki, apparently the first stage of a plan to demand a ransom for his return.

The abduction occurred late on Sunday when the two suspects traveled to Ioannina in an apparent bid to settle a financial dispute with the 46-year-old.

When the discussion failed to go as planned, they assaulted him with pepper spray, handcuffed him and bundled him into the truck of their victim’s father.

They drove him to Thessaloniki and put him in the trailer but the 46-year-old managed to escape and alerted police, who arrested the suspects.
