Ministry refutes Kammenos accusations over egg thrower
The Citizens’ Protection Ministry on Wednesday refuted accusations by Defense Minister and Independent Greeks chief Panos Kammenos that a member of the National Intelligence Service (EYP) had been behind a recent assault on the nationalist party leader.
Kammenos was bombarded with eggs and heckled by a crowd during a visit to the eastern Aegean island of Kos last weekend, in an incident that he claims was instigated by a specific police officer who served with EYP.
The ministry issued a statement Wednesday saying that no such officer has served at EYP between 2009 and the present day, with the Independent Greeks party countering that it had evidence he was in service from 2006 to 2008.
