Skopelos hit hard by damage from floodwaters
As authorities on Skopelos scrambled to assess the damage wreaked by storms earlier this week, Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis on Wednesday briefed Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the situation.
Spirtzis will visit the Sporades island on Thursday with Alternate Minister for Citizens’ Protection Nikos Toskas. Last night, the regional governor for Thessaly, Costas Agorastos, who oversees Skopelos, said the island will be declared in a state of emergency. Scores of businesses have been wrecked by floodwaters, he said.
In Laconia and Messinia, in the Peloponnese, officials on Wednesday continued to assess the damage caused by heavy rain and a tornado on Monday.
