The Greek post office (ELTA) found itself in the unusual position on Friday of issuing a statement distancing itself from a trending topic on Twitter.
ELTA said the #PortaPorta keyword was nothing to do with its “Porta Porta” (or door-to-door in Greek) courier service.
In fact, the social media topic was related to Independent Greeks MP Dimitris Kammenos, who resigned as deputy transport minister on Tuesday just hours after being sworn in.
Kammenos, who tweets under the handle @PortaPorta, walked away from the position after an outcry over his racist and homophobic tweets.
He has since deactivated his Twitter account.
